Clean Your Glass Top Stove

Glass top stoves are rapidly increasing in popularity and while nothing beats them for their seamless look and sleek style, it can be a really daunting task to clean them. Glass top stoves are much more susceptible to scratches and permanent stains due to their delicate exterior. Due to this, abrasive sponges cannot be used to clean them. Stoves are prone to grease, burned-on deposits and food spills. Regular stoves can be used with hard cleaning techniques, but when it comes to glass top stove cleaning, we have to stick to other methods.

Glass top stoves are high-maintenance. They are notorious for being frustrating to keep clean. Like any glass surface, even the tiniest spills, splatters or smears will stand out on a glass top stove, making it look untidy and messy. Worse yet, any dried bit of food that is not immediately wiped from the surface can burn on to the surface the next time you turn your stove on for cooking. Burned marks are next to impossible to remove. These stains build up over time and it is easy to imagine the unfortunate mess that is bound to result. You will require extra effort to both prevent this build-up and tackle tough stains.

Tips For Glass Top Stove Cleaning

The easiest way to keep your glass-top stove clean is by wiping the surface after each use. Ideally, you will want to use a microfiber cloth or sponge moistened with vinegar or water. Keep in mind, never to use a scouring pad or scrub brush. Only wipe the surface once it is no longer hot. Wait for it to cool down.

If you forget to wipe your stove, you will have to perform more thorough cleaning. Always use commercial products that are formulated for glass top stoves. A soft pad and a razor scraper will help you clean your stove top easily. Do not overclean your glass top stove. If only a specific area of the surface needs cleaning, then apply the product only on that part. Excessive cleaning will increase the chances of you putting scratches on the surface.

Not all the products are made for glass top stoves. Some manufacturers may also require you to clean your glass top stoves with specific cleaning products only. Always read care instruction of your product before so that you don’t accidentally void any warranties.

How To Clean A Glass Top Stove With Vinegar

Instead of spending huge sums of money on expensive cleaning products, clean your glass top stove with vinegar. Keep in mind to always wait for the stove top to cool down before you start the cleaning process. Then, sprinkle white vinegar on the surface. Wipe this sprinkled vinegar with a moist towel. Surface cleaners can also be used, but vinegar is a better choice because of being inexpensive, natural and accessible.

You can also mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and water separately in a container. After that, dip a soft sponge in the mixture and then use that sponge to wipe the surface. This method will also give you amazing results and take care of most of the stains on your glass top stove.

How To Clean A Glass Top Stove With Baking Soda

Add hot tap water in a bowl and a few drops of dish soap. Create a soapy mixture to dip your towel into. Soap reacts with oils stains and breaks their internal structure making them easier to remove. Hot water will help to speed up this process. After that, dip a microfiber towel into the mixture you made. A microfiber towel is gentle enough to clean your glass top stove without scratching the surface.

Before wiping the stove surface with the towel, sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda over the stove. If you only want to clean a specific part of the surface, then sprinkle baking soda only on that part. Remove the towel from the mixture and wring the excess water out. The towel should be damp enough to moisten the baking soda, but not so wet that you create puddles on the surface. Lay the towel on the stove and wait for at least 15 to 30 minutes. After that, wipe with the same towel. The baking soda will act as a gentle scrub to remove all the stains. Then, you can use another dry towel to wipe away any residue. If there are still areas with stuck-on food and oil stains, repeat the process until they are gone.

How To Clean A Glass Top Stove With A Razor Blade

There are special scrapers and razor blades available in the market especially for this purpose. They also come with a stove-top cleaner and soft cleaning pads. Once the stove top is cooled down, use a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any excess crumbs of food.

Add an adequate amount of liquid cleaner that comes with the scraper to the area which is to be cleaned and use the razor blade to remove burnt-on stains. Hold the razor blade at an angle that is neither too steep nor too flat. Do not use the corner of the scraper as it can scratch the glass top.
